“En Plein Air” are paintings that are painted on-location from a live subject. I mostly do plein air landscapes, but occasionally do interiors and still lives. Plein Air landscapes allow me to paint my subject while feeling the outdoors: wind, temperature, smells, and passing conversations. These paintings tend to be more raw and emotional. This style of painting is my first love before my more recent gouache works.

In 2017, I started with a new medium called gouache (rhymes with squash), which is an opaque watercolor that I paint on matboard. The medium dries quickly and allows for easy travel, as well as irregular sizes. I paint these mostly in the studio from my own original photographs, or photos that clients commission me to paint. Please contact me if you are interested in a commissioned painting from one of your photographs.
